2008 Pennies for Paws Goal of ONE-AND-A-HALF Million Pennies Beat
The Chautauqua County Humane Society announced that two million two hundred sixteen thousand four hundred pennies were counted, raising $22,164.67 for the “Pennies for Paws” campaign, beating the goal of one-and-a-half million pennies ($15,000). All of the funds raised during the campaign, which started February 12th, Abraham Lincoln’s birthday and concluded April 12th, will provide care and comfort to the animals while they wait for their second chance at a forever home.
“Pennies for Paws” was sponsored by the five radio stations of the Media One Group; WJTN, SE93, WHUG, 103.1 The Fox, and WKSN. Amy Reinhardt, Community Relations Coordinator stated, “We recruited the assistance of everyone we could to get involved, and we are very grateful to all of the individuals, organizations, and schools that made this goal a reality.” Reinhardt further explained, “Each penny donated goes towards providing nutritious food, a soft bed, medical attention and loving care that rejuvenates the spirits of the unwanted cats, kittens, dogs and puppies at the shelter.” Many local businesses and schools came up with great fundraising ideas to add to their penny collection.

?xml:namespace>BWB’s “Fun Friday” donates $500
In February 2007, the certified public accounting firm, Buffamante Whipple and Buttafaro, P.C. (BWB) started a “Fun Friday” program. Each week BWB donated a prize to be raffled off to an employee. Typically, the prize is a gift card to a local establishment worth $25, or a gift basket. Employees purchase as many entries as they would like for the prize, each costing twenty five cents. “Not only is this a great, fun way to get together on a Friday afternoon for the drawing, but we also raised $500 for the “Pennies for Paws” campaign!” explained Leslie Brown, Communications Coordinator at BWB.
